MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I am pleased to report that we had a successful meeting in Philadelphia.  All three panels organized by Professor Jungmin Seo (University of Hawaii) went smoothly, and many people attended our panels.  On behalf of AKPS, I sincerely thank the participants and Professor Seo for their hard work.

Our business meeting was also held during the conference.  In the meeting, we elected two new governing board members as the term of Professors Young Whan Kihl and Michael Launius ended this summer.  We sincerely appreciate the service of Professors Kihl and Launius.  The two new members are Professors Terence Roehrig (Naval War College) and Jungmin Seo (University of Hawaii).  Professors Roehrig and Seo are currently serving as our executive secretary and program chair for the APSA meetings respectively.  Their role for our organization will be even greater in the future.  On behalf of AKPS members, I want to thank them for their willingness to serve in this capacity as well.

The Korean Ambassador to the United States, Tae-Sik Lee was going to join us at the AKPS business meeting, but he had to cancel at the last minute due to preparation for the summit meeting on September 14th.  He wished us continuing success and expressed his willingness to work with us in the future.

In February 2007, the annual meeting of the International Studies Association (ISA) will be held in Chicago.  This meeting is the first meeting since we joined the ISA as a cooperating member.  Professor Jih-Un Kim (Webster University) organized two panels for us.  On behalf of AKPS, I want to thank him and all the participants for their hard work.  I also ask for your support for this activity.  We are going to have dinner together during the conference, so plan on joining us if you are attending.

Hope all is well with you and look forward to seeing you in Chicago.

Uk Heo
